My name is Rebecca McKenzie, I am 18 and currently a Media, History and Psychology student from Manchester who aspires to work in one of the many creative industries after completing a Media degree.
I am a blogger, photographer, advertiser, events organiser, theatre reviewer, custom cake maker, LGBT campaigner, National Union of Students annual conference delegate, musical theatre addict and above all someone searching for media related work experience.
My main area of media interest is regulation and
censorship. However, I also have a particularly strong interest in
marketing, PR and events organisation - key areas I seek to
find work experience in.
My
first encounter with the media industry was at age five when I picked up a
camera for the first time and decided I'd become a famous photo journalist;
selling my photographs to family and friends. My creative and academic
abilities may have come a long way since first I picked up that camera; however my
love for media has never changed.
A few years ago I would have said I aspire to be on a West End stage; however, my passion for media and the creative industries has lead me to aspire to work in the marketing or PR team of a theatre instead of appearing on its stage. As my primary interest is media regulation and censorship my ultimate dream job would be working for the BBFC.
I understand experience and contacts are crucial within the many media and creative industries and in the current economic downturn, with competition for employment becoming fiercer, I thought it wise to seek work experience before starting a media degree at the University of East Anglia in Septmeber.
Take a look around my site to browse samples of my work and achievements to see if I am suitable for any work experience you may have to offer.
